Konami Announces US King of Games

KONAMI DIGITAL ENTERTAINMENT – AMERICA ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF THE YU-GI-OH! U.S. CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS VIDEO GAME TOURNAMENT

Konami of America yesterday wrapped up its US Yu-Gi-Oh! Tournament at its Redwood City, California office, where it crowned the top five people to move onto the world finals in Tokyo, Japan this August.

16 Top Yu-Gi-Oh Gamers arrived at Konami’s headquarters yesterday morning to compete against one another in card-based competition. Using Yu-Gi-Oh! 7 Trials to Glory: World Championship released earlier this year on the Game Boy Advance, players put their best decks forward and battled via linked-up GBA systems. By 3:00PM, the competition weeded out the best of the best: members who will go on to the world championship on August 6th and 7th in Japan.

14 of the 16 contestants earned the right to compete in an online contest where they had to answer Yu-Gi-Oh trivia questions. Two winners from last year’s tournament filled out the rest of the roster.

After hours of fierce competition, 15-year old Patrick Dicks from Warren, Ohio triumphed over the 15 other competitors as the first place winner. Patrick Dicks was awarded a copy of Yu-Gi-Oh! Online (PC), Master Collection set and a limited edition booster pack of Yu-Gi-Oh! cards from Upper Deck(tm), Yu-Gi-Oh! branded merchandise, a spot to duel in the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2005 Tournament in Tokyo , Japan and bragging rights as the Yu-Gi-Oh! U.S. Championship Finals Video Game Champion.

The Yu-Gi-Oh! U.S. Finals second, third, fourth and fifth place winners are (in order): 13-year old Raymond Lantz III (Miami, Florida), 14-year old Matthew Mancuso (Enfield, Connecticut), 20-year old Jason Lee (Oakland, California), and 32-year old Brian Dunlap (Morrison, Colorado). Each were awarded a copy of Yu-Gi-Oh! Online (PC), a limited edition booster pack of Yu-Gi-Oh! cards from Upper Deck(tm), Yu-Gi-Oh! branded merchandise, and a spot to duel in the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2005 Tournament in Tokyo , Japan

The other combatants had a chance to score some other Yu-Gi-Oh prizes through a trivia competition.
