Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS SOLD TO MAJOR TV PLATFORMS IN AUSTRALIA, ITALY AND CANADA

MIPTV, CANNES, FRANCE – April 9, 2019 – “Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS” – the new chapter in the popular anime franchise – is off to a fast start on several TV platforms, including 9Go! in Australia, K2 in Italy, and Teletoon in Canada, just as production officially begins on Season 2 of the series. The announcement was made today by Kristen Gray, General Manager and SVP Konami Cross Media NY, which manages the Yu-Gi-Oh! brand outside of Asia.

9Go! – the Australian free-to-air digital television multichannel, which was launched by Nine Network – has picked up “Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS” and will debut Season 1 of the series on April 6th. 9Go! is a youthful channel that offers a mix of comedy, reality and general entertainment movies, animation and drama aimed at viewers between the ages of 16 to 39 as well as kids.

K2, the Italian free-to-air channel owned by Discovery Networks Europe, was the first Broadcaster to air Season 1 of “Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS,” in June of 2018.

In September of 2018, “Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS” Season 1 was launched in Canada by Teletoon, a Corus Entertainment Inc. network, which primarily airs animation content.

In making the announcement, Gray said: “This is the sixth and newest series of the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise. It is launching at a time when the global demand is strong, with the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links mobile app game exceeding 90 million downloads worldwide. We are pleased to have these blue-chip broadcasters continuing as partners, and providing an opportunity for our many fans to engage and enjoy all of the new adventures in this latest series.”

“Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS” is the latest series in the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise, where virtual reality, artificial intelligence and high-speed dueling merge into a fighting extravaganza! With advances in cutting-edge technology, duelists worldwide plug into LINK VRAINS to compete in fast-paced competition. But this cyberspace is under attack by a team of nefarious hackers determined to destroy the virtual realm! There’s only one hero who can save them – the mysterious and powerful Playmaker. But little does the world know that in real life, the dashing and daring Playmaker is actually a quiet, easy-going high school student named Yusaku Fujiki. But how can one kid take on a legion of enemies? With the help of a trash talking, AI named Ai, this unlikely duo work together to thwart the destruction of the entire virtual world and the future of dueling.
