Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series Heads Back to California

The Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series (YCS) is heading back to California for a weekend full of intense Dueling at the San Diego Convention Center on November 18-19.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series Event

This is a big, exciting 2-day event that take place from Saturday to Sunday. Duelists from all over will attend these events to compete for exclusive prizes; earn invites to their World Championship Qualifier; and spend the weekend Dueling, trading, and hanging out with hundreds of other Yu-Gi-Oh! fans.

In addition to the main Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series tournament, there are numerous Public Events, including tournaments specifically for Duelists born in 2005 or later, and Regional Qualifier tournaments. Competitive or casual, there is something for everyone to do at a Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series weekend event.

There are two opportunities to register for the Main Event. Duelists can register for the Main Event during Pre-Registration on Friday, Nov 17th, 2017 from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM or during Registration on Saturday, Nov 18th, 2017 from 8:00 AM – 9:45 AM at the San Diego Convention Center. If you choose to pre-register for the event on Friday, you will not need to show up and register on Saturday morning. Simply show up Saturday morning no later than 9:30 AM if you still need to turn in your Deck list, or by 9:45 AM if you have already handed in your Deck list, and your name will already be on the list for the 1st Round. The Player Meeting will occur while players are seated for the 1st Round of play, before play begins.

  • If attendance is 513 – 2048 Duelists, Duelists who rank 17th to 32nd will also receive a Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series Top Cut Game Mat and an invite to the 2018 World Championship Qualifier tournament.
  • If attendance is 2049 Duelists or more, Duelists who rank 33rd to 64th will also receive a Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series Top Cut Game Mat and an invite to the 2018 World Championship Qualifier tournament.
  • The number of World Qualifying Points for the Top Cut is awarded based on the total number of WCQ invites awarded at YCS San Diego after final standings. For example, if there are 32 WCQ invites, the Duelist who comes in 1st place will earn 32 points, the 2nd place Duelist will earn 31 points, and so on, down to the 32nd place Duelist who will earn 1 point.
  • New for the 2017-2018 Dueling season, every player that makes the Top Cut at Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series San Diego will also earn 32 World Qualifying Points in addition to the World Qualifying Points awarded to them after the event’s final standings. For example, if a YCS awards 32 invites to the WCQ, World Qualifier Points will be earned as follows:

*This would continue down to 32nd place, which would earn 33 World Qualifying Points.

Dragon Duel Tournament

Dragon Duel tournaments are exclusive to Duelists born before a certain calendar year, with the calendar year requirement moving forward after the World Championship each year. The current year requirement is for Duelists born on 2005 or later.

Dragon Duel tournaments are exclusive to Duelists born 2005 or later. Dragon Duels give a chance to earn an invite to the Dragon Duel World Championship Qualifier. It is run using Swiss Rounds without a Top Cut playoff.
The Dragon Duels at Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series San Diego will be Sealed Play using Battle Pack: Epic Dawn. Here are the rules for the Dragon Duel Sealed Play:

  • Each Dragon Duelist is given 10 sealed Battle Packs.
  • The Dragon Duelists then need to open all of the Battle Packs and separate the Xyz monsters and Starfoils from the rest of the cards.
  • The Dragon Duelists will then be given 20 minutes to look over their cards, build and sleeve their 40 card main Deck, should they choose to sleeve their deck, they must do so with tournament-legal sleeves. All Dragon Duelists will also receive a pack of WCQ Sleeves. You do not need to use these sleeves in the event.
  • Once steps 2 thru 4 are completed the Duelists then will play against their first round opponent in a best 2-out of-3 match.

Dragon Duel Deck Construction Rules

  • Main Deck Size (Minimum) – 40 non-Xyz Monster Cards in Main Deck
  • Side Deck Size – All non-XYZ Monster Cards not in the Main Deck
  • Extra Deck Size – All Xyz Monster Cards
  • Forbidden/Limited List – No Forbidden & Limited Card List is used

There is no entry fee for this Dragon Duel tournament. The Battle Pack participation product is provided at no cost by Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc.

Participants are required to provide proof of age in order to participate in a Dragon Duel (Copy of Birth Certificate, Passport, etc).

Duelists must be born in 2005 or later.
A minimum of four (4) Duelists is required to run a Dragon Duel tournament.
A Deck list is required for participation into a Dragon Duel. Dragon Duel tournaments are considered to be Tier 2 events.
All Duelists who earn an invite to the Dragon Duel WCQ or their guardian must fill out a copy of the 2018 WCQ Invite Form prior to receiving their prizes. A valid e-mail address must be provided for either the Duelist or the guardian.

The winner of the Saturday Dragon Duel will not be able to participate in the Sunday Dragon Duel, but the winner from the Saturday Dragon Duel and the winner from the Sunday Dragon Duel will compete for the Dragon Duel Trophy on Sunday, Nov 19th, 2017 at 4:30 PM.

Prizes for the Dragon Duel

The Top 4 Duelists in a Dragon Duel tournament will receive a 2018 Regional Game Mat, a Dragon Duel Medal, and a Dragon Duel T-Shirt.

In addition to the prizes listed above, Invites awarded in the Dragon Duel for the Dragon Duel World Championship Qualifier are based off of attendance, with the top ranking Duelists after the final round of Swiss earning an invite to the Dragon Duel WCQ.
Duelists are required to complete and submit a WCQ Invite form on site. Prizes are not awarded until after the WCQ Invite forms have been completed and properly submitted.

The winner from both the Saturday, Nov 18th Dragon Duel and the Sunday, Nov 19th Dragon Duel will compete for the title of YCS Dragon Duel Champion and a YCS Dragon Duel Champion Trophy.
