NICOLAS GONZALO GODOY and Dragon Duelist AGUSTIN MALLEA VELASQUEZ Win Big at Yu-Gi-Oh! CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES Santiago, Chile
El Segundo, Calif. (May 3, 2016) – Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME (TCG) Duelists from across South America spent an exciting weekend in Santiago, Chile, competing for the chance to raise the Champion’s trophy at the Yu-Gi-Oh! CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES (YCS) Santiago. TCG powerhouse Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. (KONAMI) brought its premier-level event to the Centro de Extensiones Universidad Católica for a weekend of head-to-head competition among veteran and novice players, but only two emerged victorious: Nicolas Gonzalo Godoy of the Main Event and Dragon Duel winner, Agustin Mallea Velasquez.
Hailing from Cordoba, Argentina, Godoy brought his ‘A game’ to the Final Round deftly playing a Phantom Abyss Deck making Andres David Torres Reyes from Bogota, Colombia stay on his toes from the draw of the first card. Though Reyes expertly used his best strategy with his Monarch Deck, in the end, he could not compete with Godoy’s playing ability.
In addition to the title of YCS Champion, Godoy returned home with a stellar set of prizes that included a YCS Championship Trophy, an Ultra Rare YCS Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn Prize Card, a PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, and an invitation and paid travel to his 2016 World Championship Qualifier (WCQ) tournament!
The Dragon Duel Championship, an event for Duelists born in 2003 or later, held during the Yu-Gi-Oh! CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES Santiago, was equally thrilling to watch as Santiago, Chile’s Agustin Mallea Velasquez used his Sealed Deck then switched to his own Majespecter Magician Deck in the finals. He had the right combination of skill and strategy to oust Erasmo Cordero, also from Santiago, who played a ’Tellarknight Deck in their head-to-head playoff final. Cordero picked up some great prizes too, including a Dragon Duel Championship Trophy, a 2016 Regional Game Mat, a Dragon Duel Medal, a Regional Deck Box, a Super Rare set of the YCS Darklord Prize Cards, and an invitation to the 2016 Dragon Duel World Championship Qualifier tournament to be held during his WCQ.
